How fees work

How paying for grief counseling works here, in the order people tend to ask.

  • Insurance we work with

I am an out-of-network counselor, so SoulCalm does not bill your insurance. That includes Medicare and Medicaid. Some plans pay part of the cost of out-of-network care; your plan decides how much, if anything.

    • Some PPO and POS plans reimburse out-of-network care

    • Health savings and flexible spending cards are accepted

  • If you pay yourself

You pay for each session on the day. Your fee is set out in writing before you begin. A limited number of reduced-fee places may be open, so ask when you write. Please give 24 hours' notice to cancel or move a session; a later cancellation may be charged, up to the fee for the session.

  • Receipts for reimbursement

At the end of each month you can have an itemized receipt, called a superbill, to send to your plan if you want to ask for reimbursement. It lists a diagnosis code, which your plan will see. Whether your plan pays is its decision, and I cannot promise that it will.

  • An estimate in advance

If you pay without insurance, you have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate of what care will cost before you start. I give you a written estimate before your first session. It is an estimate and not a contract, and you can dispute a bill that comes in $400 or more above it.

  • Checking your benefits

Because I am out of network, I do not check your benefits for you. Before your first session, call your plan and ask whether it reimburses out-of-network outpatient mental health care, what your deductible is and what share it pays.

Your fee is given to you in writing before your first session.
